Santa Claus is coming to town.
Wednesday Kevin dropped me off at the train station at 6. I had the train at 6.10 to Dublin. In Dublin I took the bus to the airport and got there in plenty of time. This was a good thing, because at security I OF COURSE got pulled aside. First time I ‘forgot’ to take my shoes off. Second time I had nothing anymore, but they wanted to swipe my hands ‘in case’. I finally was able to go through, no bag. It was pulled aside. So I put my shoes and all the other stuff back on and waited for someone from security to take a look at my bag. I always start doubting myself when my bag is pulled apart. ‘Did I forget something?’. He asked if I had any liquids in my bag. I said no. He wanted to take a look, so I opened my bag and he saw the Christmas present I got from Kevin’s parents. He said that this could be it and he wanted to scan it again. I was already thinking like oh no there it goes or how am I gonna explain that I didn’t know what was in there.. bla bla. He scanned it again and I was allowed to take it and go haha. So after repacking my bag I had plenty of time to make my way to the gate, have some coffee and inform everyone that I made it okay. The flight was fine, a little delayed, but we arrived only 3 min late. Smutti and fati picked me up at the airport! It was nice seeing them again and a good feeling coming home for Christmas. We drove back and we were home around 4.30. Mom was going out for dinner with colleagues from the primary school, so my dad thought it would a good idea that we do that as well. I obviously didn’t object, so we went to dinner at ‘van alles get’. The food was gooooood and we had a nice time.
On Thursday I had some errands to run and in the evening I went to the cinema with Rik. We went to see Passengers. It was good! Some quality brother-sister-time !
On Friday I went to Valkenburg with tha parents. We walked around for a bit and I had a really nice Dutch Irish coffee. You’d swear that woman was Irish, because that coffee was stronnnnnnnnggggg. In the evening I went over to Jamie’s and we went out! A good night out on the town :D!
I had some breakfast with her and went home in the early afternoon. I just relaxed a bit at home. Around 6 mom, Rik and I went to church for Christmas. After we got back, we had some ‘Limburgse vlaai’. JAMMMM!!!! We watched the ending of Serious Request 2016 and opened our presents! I got some good stuff again :D! After the present we had sausage rolls and Christmas bread. A good Christmas eve I’d say!
The first day of Christmas was filled with food, some more presents, games, drinks and some time with family. It was really nice to be home for Christmas. It’s nice to spend it with family.
The second day was relaxed as well. We had brunch, played some games again and in the evening Marianne, a family friend, came over for dinner.
On Tuesday I basically had to ween off the Christmas food and drinks. I had some nice down time at home.
On Wednesday I met with Dayenne and Felicia in the morning, we had some catching up to do! I had to run some more errands in the afternoon and I had a nice Dutch dinner at home, ‘greun moos mit gehak’.
Thursday I went to Maastricht during the day and met up with Lynn. I got my ears pierced again and we had some coffee. It was fun catching up with her as well! I had dinner at home and went over to Jamie’s in the evening. Good day!
I didn’t plan anything for Friday, so I just had a nice day at home. In the evening Rik came over for dinner, so I was asked to make sweet and sour chicken. Right before I went to bed, I packed my bag haha.
Saturday, New Years Eve, I was flying to Dublin again with Janine. We went to the airport around 8, so we would get there in time and still have some time to have a Starbucks as well haha. We got there and the first couple of flights were being delayed or cancelled. This was not looking good. The fog was really messing with the flight traffic. Around 10 we were told that our flight was delayed until 15.25. WHAT?! Well… so this meant we had about 5 hours to spend at the airport. My parents drove us and they were nice enough to stay with us to pass the time. We had some lunch, some more coffee and talked.
Around 14.45 they still hadn’t changed our flight message to security, which they had done with a lot of the other ones before changing to boarding. So I went to ask one of the people from Ryanair. Turns out.. they DON’T put that up for every flight, so the flight was actually boarding! The line for security was fucking long, so he was nice enough to let us use the aisle for flight personnel. They were calling that our gate was closing in 7 minutes, so we were stressing at the security line. OF COURSE my bag was taking out for further inspection AGAIN! I was putting my shoes, belt and jacket on as fast as possible. The woman was inspecting another bag first, so I was sweating even more. When she finally got to mine, took everything out, she got to the conclusion there was nothing in there. WELL! I could have told you that! She was nice enough to help me shove everything back in, but we had to RUN! When we got to passport security, we could see our gate and there were still people there, so we could breathe a bit. It did also help that Eindhoven isn’t that big of an airport, luckily. We made the flight!!! Only to sit there for another 20 minutes, because one group of people were even later than we were. I didn’t think it was possible and now really think that people really need to work hard to actually miss a plane, if you were already AT THE AIRPORT 5 HOURS IN ADVANCE!!!
Anywho… we arrived in Dublin a little later than expected. We went to the hostel first, which was about a 5 min walk from the bus stop. We dropped our bags and went for dinner. We went to this hamburger place in Temple Bar district. It was goooooood. Around 8 we went to the place the concert was being held, St. Stephen’s Green. Of course while we were walking it started raining. It was set up pretty good, there was a lot of security, some stalls with food and a bit tent for drinks. The stage was in front and there were 2 other big screens a little further back. That was very convenient for us haha. We got ourselves a drink and waited for Walking on Cars. We came to the conclusion that the bands that were listed before Walking on Cars, weren’t part of a pre-show. They were part of the headliners. So that meant that from 8 until about 11.50 we listened to artists we didn’t know, while getting soaking wet. I had my North face jacket on, but forgot to put the hood back on. So I just had the hood of my sweater… not really water resistant. Yeah yeah…
And because of the rain, they had to wipe the stage and the instruments were getting wet. This delayed Walking on Cars even more. So we heard 2 songs in 2016 and 1 in 2017. The fireworks were, let’s say, disappointing. There is not a lot of fireworks here in Ireland. So we heard ‘speeding cars’ in 2017 and we were done with the cold and rain after that. So were a lot of other people. We went back to the hostel and called it a night.
On the first day of the new year, we slept in a bit. We went for breakfast at Starbucks and did some of the sightseeing. And I say some, because a lot of things were closed because of New Years. This kinda sucked, especially for the Book of Kells at Trinity College. In the evening we went for dinner at this Irish restaurant in Temple Bar. I went there with the parents and Rik as well, so I knew it was good. After this we went to the actual Temple Bar. We had some drinks. It was a good day!
Paddywagon tour to the Cliffs of Moher was on the agenda for today. We were being picked up at 7.30 around the corner, so it was an early rise. We met another girl that was going on the tour in our hostel and walked over together. The bus driver was so funny, so all the time in the bus wasn’t that bad. We stopped in Kinvara first and saw Dunguaire Castle. The next stop was the Burren. A different part from last time, so it wasn’t boring for me hahaha. We stopped at the Cliffs next. We had 1,5 hours there, so plenty of time to take some pictures and walk around. It was great weather, dry and sun. So that was definite plus this time as well! We had one stop on the way back, at Bunratty Castle, before coming into Dublin. We were back around 8. We went to dinner at McDonalds.. yeah.. 2 days in and already at McDonalds.. oops. We had drinks again at Temple Bar. This time we sat in front on the stage and the performers were good! Good looking too haha. It was a good night!
On the third of January we were both heading back. I went back to Mallow and Janine went back to the Netherland. She took the bus at 8.30. We said our goodbyes (least fun part!) and I walked on the other bus stop, heading to the train station. I had the train at 11, so I had a coffee at the station. The rest of the day I relaxed a bit and took a shower haha.
I hope all of you had a great Christmas and a good start, less rainy and cold, to 2017!

See you soon-ish,
