St. Paddy's day.. among other things!
The week went by pretty fast! Nothing really special happened. I was very excited for the weekend, because then my BFF would come AGAIN! I have great friends! So Saturday I took the train at 11.41 to Dublin. We met in the perfect location, STARBUCKS! We talked for a bit and walked around the city, after dropping my bag off at the hostel. This was in a side street of O’Connell street, which is one of the main streets! Great location! Dinner was eaten at Eddie Rocket’s. I had never been. It was great! It’s like a 60’s diner and the food was good too! We ended the day with a nice drink in a pub.
There was one downside to the hostel, beside the usual (squeaky beds, noise, blabla). The exit light. Yeah.. it was.. NOT hard to find your exit. That thing shone so bright, I almost needed sunglasses to sleep. And I was on the top bed as well.
On Sunday we chilled pretty much. We had breakfast at the hostel, went to Starbucks for decent coffee, walked around a bit, went to the Leprechaun Museum (yeah there is such thing and no it’s not really worth the money), had some drinks, met some nice people, signed a dollar which is now on the wall of the Quay’s forever, had some McDonalds and a nice sleep.
Monday was tour day. We took the Paddywagon Tour to Connemara National Park. Jamie had already seen most of the things we could do, but this was new for her as well. So we got up bright and early and sat in the bus for a day. The national park was pretty and so were the stops we made along the way. It was a long day though. We left around 8AM and got back to Dublin around 7.30PM. We had dinner at McDonalds and went for a coffee at Starbucks. The rest of the evening we spent in the hostel, we were both tired. Tuesday was leaving day . We checked out at the hostel and went .. you guessed it.. to Starbucks and just chilled for a bit. Jamie took the bus around 10 to the airport and I had the train at 11 back to Mallow. It was sad saying goodbye again. It always is. Even if you know you’ll see each other soon again. This time it was ‘only’ for another 2 months. When I arrived in Mallow, I worked for the rest of the day plus had a good and early night sleep.
3 full days of working before the weekend again. This time Kilkenny was the plan. I went there with Laurel, Patricia, Barbara and Ana. We took the bus to Cork on Saturday. From there we had a coach to Kilkenny. We arrived in Cork pretty early, so we decided to go to Costa for a coffee. After that we made pit stop at the toilets, before heading to the coach. Despite being early in Cork, we had to run to catch the coach. Yeah.. chatted a little long and the line for the toilets were long as well. But we made it. Had a nice spot in the back of the bus. It was perfect, as long as the hatch in the roof stayed closed. We arrived in Kilkenny in the afternoon. We dropped our bags in the hostel and went for a stroll in town. It’s pretty big! We went to Kilkenny Castle, but unfortunately weren’t able to take the tour that day. In the evening we went to dinner at an Italian restaurant. Eating was quite the challenge, because Patricia is gluten-, dairy- and sugar-intolerant. Yeah.. I call it ‘flavorfreefood’. BUT we found a restaurant that met her needs haha. After a nice meal we went to Langtons, a very nice hotel that Katie and Kevin told me about. The bar downstairs is so pretty. We had a couple drinks there, had some chats with some people, danced a bit and after a couple hours we wanted to go somewhere else. But because everything was so busy, we went to the hostel instead.
On Sunday we went to the castle first and did the tour. It’s very pretty! It was definitely worth the €4 we had to pay as ‘students’ to get in. After the castle we had some lunch and walked around for a bit again. We visited a cathedral as well. We had the coach back to Cork around 6. There was some stressiness about that as well. When we were waiting at the bus stop, there were so many people waiting and more kept coming. They all looked like students, so we were afraid we weren’t getting on the bus. Luckily there was a special bus just for the students. So that problem went away. But when the actual bus came, our fear was very real. There were only 10 seats and way more people waiting. With some pushing we were able to get on that bus. There was another bus coming in about 5 min, so the other people didn’t have to wait long. But because of all the talking and waiting, we arrived in Cork a lot later than expected. If we arrived on time, we had 37 minutes to cross the bridge and go to the bus station (which would take about 10 min walk, walking normal). We had 5 min and the bus to Mallow leaves ON TIME. And it was also the last bus of the day. So we HAD to make that one. We send Barbara ahead to stop the bus haha and we were following as fast as we could. Again.. we made it luckily! Despite planning everything pretty good, we ended up running for all our transportation. It was a fun weekend though!
Monday was filled with working from 10 to 18.30. The day was so nice, that I went out for a walk twice today. I went with Iarlaith and Conaill in the morning and I went with Naoise, Iarlaith and Fiadh in the afternoon
Tuesday was a normal working day from 10 to 18.30. In the morning I went to the gym, so I had my work-out done before working. This was so nice! I had Fiadh as well, because Katie went to paint in the other house. They are thinking of moving, but will rent the house out first. It needed a lick of paint.
In the morning we went for a walk. I had Conaill, Iarlaith and Fiadh in the buggy. It was such a lovely day, sunshine and everything. In the afternoon Katie took Naoise and Iarlaith to CrossFit. Conaill wasn’t allowed to go unfortunately do to some misbehavior last time, so I had Conaill and Fiadh. The weather was still good, so I thought we go for a walk. I go and get my coat, only to come down and see Conaill asleep on the couch. Okay then. No walk haha. I made dinner for the boys and Katie was back with them around 5.30. In the evening I had to ask Katie to brush my hair. Yes.. I finally got them. Lice.. lovely! It’s not the animals per see, or the itching, it’s the fact that I can’t comb my hair myself to get rid of them. So I put a butt load of conditioner in it and Katie worked away for about 20 min. Yes mommy, we should have done this every time. Would have been so much easier haha. In the evening I watched some Netflix.
This Wednesday I had to start work a little earlier this time, I started at 8.30 :O haha. Katie had an appointment and asked if I could start earlier, which was no problem of course. In the afternoon I had Fiadh as well again, because of the painting. Nothing really special during the day. I went to Alberts in the evening and was home rather early (around 10).
Thursday was a normal working day again. On Friday I was off, because of St. Patrick’s Day! I went to Cork for the day. Laurel, Patricia, Natalia and I took the bus at 9.40. We went to Starbucks for some coffee and chilled for a bit until the parade at 1. The parade itself was a little disappointing. I guess I thought it would be more like our Carnaval parades. But it was a lot of clubs, with no dancing or music. Maybe 5 clubs had music and some kind of dancing. This made standing there for 2 hours a lot less fun. It was nice to have seen once, but once was enough. After that we went to a pub, the Old Oak, for a drink. It was really busy, but as the time passed we managed to get a spot with seats. We met the other girls, Barbara, Ana, Lara, Anna, Hannah and her friend, there. After some time we left here and made a pit stop at Penny’s. I didn’t need anything this time! Now came the big decision: where do we go for dinner? Because there were so many of us, I thought let’s just split up and meet up later. Not everyone agreed, so even the people that didn’t want to go to McDonalds, came with us haha. We walked around for a bit, went into some pubs (all of them extremely busy) and after some dancing, drinking, fighting (not us, other people) we thought it was time to go home. We took the bus at 20.52 and Patricia, Barbara, Ana and I went to McDonalds again (I only had a McFlurry this time, sorry Ayleen!). I was home around 11 and no, I was not drunk!
The weekend was filled with MOVIESSSS! On Saturday I just relaxed a bit and went to dinner with Patricia. We went to Soos (Asian restaurant, so jummy!) and after we went to see Logan. It was sooo good! I liked it! On Sunday I chilled a bit again and decided to go to Costa in the morning. Katie was taking the boys to the play ground so she dropped me off. I ordered my latte with caramel syrup. I went to put in down on the table and move my bag a bit. And…. My latte… decided that it was going to live in my bag. Yes… ¾ of my latte went right into my bag. FUCK! MY! LIFE! So I went to ask for some paper and started cleaning. After about 10 minutes (I wasn’t done yet) the barista came over and offered to make me a new one. She thought I only spilled a little bit, but I commited and spilled most of it. I was finally done and she brought me a new one. So nice of her! Now to add to my morning misery.. I brought a magazine. That was in my bag too. It was wet now. I tried to read the parts that weren’t torn or just unreadable and tossed the thing on my way home. In the evening I met up with some of the other au-pairs to watch ‘Beauty and the beast’. I LOVED IT! It was so good! Totally a DVD I want for my collection! After the movie we all went home and I watched some Netflix after that.
Today was a normal working day again. Because the painting is still going on in the other house, I had Fiadh the whole day as well. In the morning I went for a walk with Fiadh in the buggy, Iarlaith holding the buggy (most of the times anyway) and Conaill. It was actually sunny! For the walk.. after that it was showers, sun, shower, sun.. you get the gist. The afternoon was uneventful and so was the evening haha.
